PSG Defeats Olympique de Marseille on Penalties to Lift Trophee des Champions Super Cup in Kuwait.

PSG players celebrating

The Parisian club has now secured the season-opening trophy on fourteen separate occasions.

The Parisian giants needed a stoppage-time equaliser followed by a successful penalty shootout to overcome their arch-rivals in the Gulf and capture a fourth straight French Super Cup victory.

The Champions League holders appeared to be coasting towards a straightforward triumph in the match between the French league winners and the French Cup winners after the French winger opened the net early on.

Yet, Marseille fired two times in the closing moments to take a shock lead. Initially, the English forward converted from the penalty spot, before Willian Pacho inadvertently directed the ball into his own net for an own goal.

In a breathtaking twist of events, the Portuguese striker snatched a vital equaliser in the final seconds to force the match into a deciding shootout. PSG goalkeeper Lucas Chevalier then emerged as the key figure, saving crucial kicks from O'Riley and Traore.

From the spot, Goncalo Ramos, the midfielder, the full-back, and the young talent all converted with composure for Paris Saint-Germain to seal a 4-1 penalty win.

Now 14-time winners Paris Saint-Germain, who met last season's Ligue 1 runners-up Marseille after completing a domestic double, have now won this trophy for the twelfth time in the last thirteen years.
